Phil McDonald is a proud lifelong Coloradan with deep roots in public service and entrepreneurship. With careers spanning emergency medicine, law enforcement, and small business ownership, Phil brings decades of hands-on experience, leadership, and commitment to his community.
Phil and his wife Kelley share a beautifully merged unified family with six children. Their oldest daughter holds a Ph.D. and is married to a Division One football coach at UNLV — go Rebels! Both of their oldest sons chose to serve our country in the military — one in the Navy, stationed in San Diego, and the other in the Army, based in Anchorage, Alaska. Another daughter recently earned her Bachelor’s degree from Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction. Their two youngest sons are high school students in Colorado Springs, where they are active in sports, student council, jazz band, FCCLA, and competitive bass fishing.
Phil and Kelley lead a busy life, balancing family and business with passion and purpose. Together, they manage a successful property management company in Park County, operate U-Haul dealerships in Colorado Springs and Monument, and run a tire business servicing U-Haul roadside needs across Colorado, southeastern Utah, and northern New Mexico.
In addition to these ventures, Phil is the founder of Lightning Athletics, a fully trademarked brand he developed through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Under the Lightning Athletics umbrella, he built a full-service uniform and apparel business that provides custom school uniforms, sports gear, medical and dental scrubs, public safety apparel (police, fire, security), and hospitality uniforms. The store also offers embroidery and screen-printing services to schools, teams, and businesses across the region.
Phil and Kelley are both proud alumni of Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs. After graduation, life took them in different directions — but they thank God every day that their paths crossed again. Now, they’re building a life together focused on faith, family, and service.
In 2022, Phil and Kelley purchased over 40 acres in Hartsel, Colorado, where they built their 5,000 square foot barndominium — a home they lovingly call “Headquarters.” It serves as the heart of their family life and home for generations to come.
